goldbricker

goldbricker
Employee who tries to do the least amount of work without getting fired, lazy worker. The author’s father told the story of a framing carpenter who, when he heard the 4:00 whistle ending the workday, had a nail halfway into the piece of wood. When asked why he pulled the nail out of the wood rather than nailing it in, the goldbricker replied, “ I don’t get paid for overtime.” (Ex Rel. Morris Folsom, 1970)
